BusinessWeek: Springdale Best for Kids
With high rankings in school performance, safety and amenities, BusinessWeek magazine has ranked Springdale as the "Best Place to Raise Your Kids" in the state of Arkansas. Springdale, a city of 65,000, is the fourth largest city in the state.
The magazine pointed out, "We weighted school performance and safety most heavily, but also gave strong weight to amenities and affordability." In addition to Springdale's outstanding schools and educational programming, the city became one of just 30 cities in the U.S. to have Class AA minor league baseball in 2008 with the opening of Arvest Ballpark -- named the best new ballpark in the country.
The magazine targeted cities with at least 50,000 residents and a median family income between $40,000 and $100,000. It utilized weighted criteria that included school performance; number of schools; household expenditures; crime rates; air quality; job growth; family income; museums, parks, theaters, and other amenities; and diversity.
Springdale was ranked as Arkansas' "Best Place to Raise Your Kids" with Conway and Fayetteville named as runners-up.
