ACO - front of building

The ACO brings arts to life through quality community theater.

For over 35 years, the ACO has been at the heart of the arts in Northwest Arkansas. Theater, visual arts, music and dance are all gathered together in one great institution in downtown Springdale.

The Arts Center of the Ozarks has been dedicated to providing artistic outlets in Northwest Arkansas for artists, actors, musicians, dancers and for audiences of all ages. The ACO has something for every taste – dinner theater, musicals, drama, children’s workshop productions, art exhibitions and competitions, the Prairie Grove Clothesline Fair, concerts by the ACO Children’s Chorus and the ACO Community Chorus, dance concerts and recitals, and classes in everything from stage make-up to calligraphy, beginning watercolor to power dance..

The history of the Arts Center of the Ozarks began in 1965 and 1966 when the members of the Springdale Music Club sponsored, organized, and produced the “Festival of Arts” in Springdale. The response for this event was so positive that the Springdale Fine Arts Center was formed in 1967 to promote and advance the visual and performing arts in the Northwest Arkansas area. A new $1.4 million facility, which included the 425-seat Bernice Jones Theater, the McCuiston-Mathews Gallery, the Walker Administrative Offices and the Tyson Education Wing, opened in 1993.

ACO is a privately incorporated, non-profit educational arts institution governed by a 40-member Board of Directors representing all of Northwest Arkansas. Its primary goal is to provide quality arts education and entertainment for all of Northwest Arkansas.
